Short description
Nocturnal Animals is a 2016 psychological thriller directed by Tom Ford and starring Amy Adams, Jake Gyllenhaal, Michael Shannon, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Isla Fisher, Armie Hammer and Laura Linney. The film follows Susan Morrow (Adams), an art gallery owner who receives a manuscript from her ex-husband Edward Sheffield (Gyllenhaal). As she reads the story, she is drawn into the fictional world of Tony Hastings (also Gyllenhaal), a man whose family is brutally attacked by three criminals.
The film is visually stunning and the cinematography captures the beauty of Texas in all its glory. The score by Abel Korzeniowski is hauntingly beautiful and adds to the atmosphere of the film. The performances are all excellent with Adams giving a powerful performance as Susan Morrow. Gyllenhaal gives two distinct performances as both Edward Sheffield and Tony Hastings. Shannon gives an intense performance as Detective Bobby Andes while Taylor-Johnson, Fisher, Hammer and Linney all give strong supporting performances.
The story of Nocturnal Animals is complex and thought-provoking. It explores themes such as revenge, justice and morality in a way that will leave you thinking long after you have seen it.
