The movie starts off with the village of Calvera being terrorized by a band of bandits led by Calvera (Eli Wallach). The villagers are unable to defend themselves and so they hire Chris Adams (Yul Brynner) to help them. Chris then recruits six other gunslingers to help him in his mission. Each one brings something unique to the team: Chico (Horst Buchholz) is a young Mexican who is eager to prove himself; Vin (Steve McQueen) is an experienced gunslinger; Bernardo O'Reilly (Charles Bronson) is an expert knife fighter; Britt (Robert Vaughn) is an educated gambler; Lee (Brad Dexter) is a former Confederate soldier; and Harry Luck (James Coburn) is an outlaw with a heart of gold.
The seven men set out on their mission and soon find themselves up against overwhelming odds as they face off against Calvera's gang. Despite their differences, they come together as a team and fight bravely for the villagers. The action sequences are thrilling and exciting, with plenty of gunfights and explosions that keep you on the edge of your seat. The cinematography captures the beauty of the Mexican landscape while also conveying the danger that lurks around every corner.
The performances from all seven actors are outstanding, particularly Yul Brynner as Chris Adams who leads his team with strength and courage. Steve McQueen also shines as Vin Tanner, providing some much needed comic relief in between all the action sequences. Eli Wallach gives an excellent performance as Calvera, making him both menacing and sympathetic at times.
Overall, The Magnificent Seven is an excellent western that has stood the test of time due to its thrilling action sequences, great performances from its cast and beautiful cinematography that captures both the beauty and danger of Mexico in this era. It's definitely worth watching if you're looking for an entertaining western movie with plenty of action!
