However, Vole's wife Christine (Dietrich) is called to testify against him and her testimony casts doubt on his innocence.
The film is filled with suspense and intrigue as the audience follows the twists and turns of the trial. The performances are all top-notch, with Laughton in particular delivering an outstanding performance as the passionate defense attorney. Dietrich also shines as Christine, a woman torn between loyalty to her husband and her own conscience. Power also does a great job as Vole, conveying both his innocence and desperation in equal measure.
The cinematography is also excellent, with some beautiful shots of London during the 1950s adding to the atmosphere of the film. The score by Matty Malneck also adds to the tension of certain scenes, particularly during the courtroom scenes where it builds up to a crescendo as Sir Wilfrid makes his closing arguments.
